  1. Live productions like David at Sight & Sound Theatres seem to offer such an immersive way to experience familiar stories in a completely new light. I’m always fascinated by how stage effects, music, and acting can bring such depth to these timeless narratives. How would you compare David to some of the other productions at Sight & Sound, like Jesus or Queen Esther? Also, do you feel that the theater’s elaborate sets and special effects ever risk overshadowing the emotional core of the story, or do they enhance it?

    • You asked a very good question about the special effects and the overshadowing of the core of the story.  In my opinion, I believe that the producers and writers at Sight & Sound do a very good job of holding to the facts of the story.  They seem to research the story very well before starting production on any of their shows.  In fact they research it well enough that of the shows that I have watched, I went away with a question in my mind about a part of the story that I didn’t recall, and went immediately to research the bible to find that what was presented was correct.

You asked about how David compares to their other productions.  I saw Esther last year, which was my first Sight & Sound experience ever.  From a production standpoint (which I pay close attention to since I worked in music and stage production for some years) I thought that Esther was an overall better production with the the massive sets.  But David holds it’s own with the meeting of David and Goliath, and then David’s army meeting the brother and sons of Goliath.  My parents saw Jesus and they have told me that that one by far was the best in their opinion with the special effects of Jesus ascension.

All in all, from listening to the many that have experienced a Sight & Sound production, there is no such thing as a bad presentation by them.
